APAA2013Both our Thai Office – in the presence of its Partner Chalinee Sriprasart (also Head of the Trademarks Department and Noemie Sancelme, Consultant and Foreign Relations Officer, who all practice in Bangkok - and European Office, in the presence of Soazig Themoin, Partner and Head of the Legal Department in France, had the pleasure to attend this long-awaited event held this year in Hanoi, in Vietnam, from 19th to 22nd October.

They had the opportunity to discuss with all Asian Experts on Intellectual Property and to compare Asian and European Proceedings and litigation regarding Patents, Trademarks and Copyright in order to improve their high quality Trademark and Patent services in Thailand and Europe.

We will sure be at the next APAA which will take place in Penang in November 2014 and, in the meantime, shall not fail to maintain our active and fruitful exchanges.

We have the pleasure to inform you that Chinese Trademark Office (Called hereinafter, the Office) becomes more flexible in its doctrine, and accepts trademark protection in respect of wholesale or retail services for certain products.

Of course, the Office will not change its general practices in a global way. In fact, the Office still maintains its opposition for refusing registrations of trademarks, which designate "wholesale and retail services" per se in class 35.

We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organizing Committee, to which Ms. Chalinee Sriprasart and Ms Saweeya C Benhar were part of, for its great planning and efforts put into making the APAA memorable.

In the past few years, Thailand has showed a real involvement in improving its Intellectual Property landscap e; our Founder Mr. Patrice VIDON was able to monitor the progress during the latest session of the EU-TH IP R Dialog he attended in Brussels earlier this year. The European Asean Business Centre (EABC) in Thailand of which Vidon & Partners is an active member ensu res that mutual undertakings exchanged during such meetings will be fulfilled, notably by meeting regularly with local Authorities.
